Connect providers and choose models
Configure a supported provider or Claude CLI connection and verify the model selected for a conversation.
Get startedUnderstand the connection#
Configure a provider, then choose the conversation's model in the composer.
Prepare your account#
Open Settings → Providers with the service's credential and endpoint ready. For a Claude CLI account, inspect Settings → Claude CLI.
Onevium sign-in and model access are separate. Put secrets in configuration fields, not chat messages. A generic API endpoint is not automatically compatible: protocol, authentication, and tool support must match.
Make the first connection#
- Choose a supported provider and fill its required fields.
- Check the endpoint and authentication method, then save.
- Open a conversation and select an available model.
- Send a small request, then try reading a non-sensitive project file.
Reply with one sentence confirming you received this message.
Do not read files or run commands.
Check model selection and usage#
Success means the selected model replies and the file-reading workflow you need works. A text response does not establish support for images or every tool.
Check the model before a long run. Inspect recorded usage in Settings → Usage & billing, and compare unexpected usage with the provider's account information.
Troubleshoot a connection#
- Authentication error: check credentials, authentication method, and account access.
- Model unavailable: check its identifier, account availability, and visibility settings.
- Timeout: check endpoint, network, and proxy configuration.
- Text works but tools fail: inspect compatibility and the actual error.
Use the connection in a project#
Run your first task. See permissions for action controls and settings and data for information boundaries.
